Detroit is continuing to make progress from the new M-1 Rail to the new Little Caesars Arena and now talks are in the works about a possible Target store coming to Midtown.
The development would fit on a 9-acre site that has a long-shuttered muffler shop and American Red Cross buildings. The Detroit Free Press is reporting that it would be located at Woodward in Mack near the popular Whole Foods.
The new project would also include 25,000 square feet of retail space and restaurants. The extra retail space would mostly line Woodward, but would involve a 5,000-square-foot retail building on Mack where there is currently a parking lot.
Details of the unnamed project were revealed Thursday during an International Conference of Shopping Centers event in Novi at the Suburban Collection Showplace. Multiple sources of the development identified national retailer Target as the project’s possible anchor tenant, but it has yet to be confirmed. Target has recently been opening small-store concept stores in certain urban markets, most recently in Chicago.
