On August 25th, 2001 we lost an incredible soul by the name of Aaliyah Dana Houghton, (better off known as the Princess of R&B). Aaliyah and her video crew of 8 members were on their way back to Miami, Florida after filming a music video in Abaco Island in the Bahamas when the plane crashed and burst into flames shortly after takeoff. Aaliyah was just a mere 22-years-old.

Fans of the R&B princess have been flooding Twitter with pictures, memes, videos, and heartfelt messages and even starting a worldwide trending topic #Aaliyah.

For those of you that may not know or may not have dived into the greatness of Aaliyah, she made a monumental impact on the R&B scene in the 1990s, selling millions of albums and becoming the very first artist in Billboard history to top the Billboard Hot 100 solely on airplay. Aaliyah was broke into the acting and modeling scene, appearing in films Romeo Must Die and Queen of the Damned.

It’s no doubt that Aaliyah’s legacy will live on forever and that is why we’ve compiled tweets from fans and celebrities celebrating the life and legacy of a princess gone too soon.
